Carers Rights

Know Your Rights…

The Care Act provides carers with certain rights. It is useful to be aware of these and they may help support you in your caring role.

You are entitled to a Carers Assessment

A carers assessment looks at how caring affects your life, including any health issues and whether you are able or willing to carry on caring. As a carer you have the right to an assessment even if the person you care for has not had their needs assessed or if they were considered ineligible for support. You can have an assessment no matter what your level of need, the amount of care you provide or your financial means.

A Carers Assessment is commonly done over the telephone but could be done face-to-face. The assessment will be able to identify any support you may be eligible for.

If you would like a Carers Assessment call Social Care Direct: 0345 60 80 191
