On Wednesday 5th May 2016, Care for the Carers held our Spring Carers Forum at the International Tennis Centre in Eastbourne.

There were around 70 carers in attendance, making this one of our largest forum events to date.

The event was opened by Care for the Carers CEO Jennifer Twist, who welcomed the assembled carers and professionals, and introduced the keynote speaker, Laura Bennett from Carers Trust.  You can view the slides from the welcome and the keynote speech in the slideshow at the bottom of this page.

The theme this time was “Taboo Subjects” – things which carers want to talk about, but find it difficult to do so.  In a change to the usual format, carers chose which workshops they would like to participate in, and groups went into sessions which were led by a professional in that area.  Available workshops included ‘intimacy and relationships’, ‘care options’, ‘end of life’, and ‘mental health’.

Also in attendance at the Carers Forum was the ‘Marketplace’, which consisted of a number of professionals from partner organisations, who set up information stands based on their particular fields of expertise. This provided carers with an opportunity to speak to relevant professionals about their

particular issues, gain more specialist advice, and acquire a greater knowledge of what support is available for them within East Sussex.

Initial feedback has been largely positive, and indicates that this style of event was a popular choice.  If you would like to provide feedback on this event and have not received a feedback form on which to do so – please get in touch on 01323 738390 or by email at info@cftc.org.uk.
