Care for the Carers Autumn Carer Forum was held on Wednesday October 19th 2016 at the Hastings Centre. The events theme was ‘Carers Hot Topics’ and was attended by 82 carers from across the county. Feedback from carers on the day as very positive.
“ Well worth attending – a chance to learn more about being a carer i.e. taking care of myself as well as the cared for person and meeting people in a like situation”
“The best things about the day was meeting and discussing with other carers and professional people problems encountered in your caring role”
The Key note Speaker was Dr Neil Churchill from NHS England who shared information and answered questions about NHS Commitments to carers. This was followed by input from Tamsin Peart – Strategic Commissioning Manager (Carers) who made the link to local services and support in East Sussex. Slides from these presentations can be downloaded below.
A marketplace made of 27 information stands was available for carers to visit throughout the day and ten workshops were held with carers choosing two to attend. Subjects included Speaking with Health Professionals, Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Use, Benefits and Scam Prevention.
The day enabled carers to
- share their views, experiences and needs.
- learn more about support available to them and feel more confident about accessing opportunities and support
- contribute constructive ideas about how services and support could be improved.
A full report will be available on this website in the future but in the meantime here are some pictures from the day.
